United Independent Artists (UIA) began in 1997 with Jeff and Susan Whisnant at the helm. “It’s not something we set out to do,” says Susan, “it’s something we started that God has blessed.” The Whisnants first independent album was Still Standing and from that project they sent out their first single, I’ll Stand For the Lord, with no one to do radio promotions for them. Leo Ruppe called Susan one day and asked her, “Why don’t you promote your own singles?” Susan replied, “I don’t know how.” Leo Ruppe mentored Susan and now she and Jeff run UIA (United Independent Artists). “God has endorsed it,” says Susan, and the success of UIA can be traced from the very beginning with the very first single they promoted, The Whisnants I’ll Stand For the Lord, which was the group’s very first top ten song. The Booth Brothers “He Saw It All” and “Look For Me at Jesus’ Feet” both #1’s on the Singing News Charts and voted Song of the Year in the Fan Awards can be attributed to work of UIA. All of the Whisnants #1 songs, Triumphant Quartet’s “Saved By Grace” and Greater Vision’s “Preacher, Tell It Like It Is” can all be ascribed to the hard work of Susan Whisnant heading up the radio promotions. UIA is built up of artists who record independently from recording labels and want to be on their disc. They ship to 900 stations total and all of the charting stations across the US and Canada.
